Today, you can take one simple action to ensure that 7,000 Indiana youth understand and apply the principles of our nation’s most revered document – the U.S. Constitution.
In 2009, the National Center for State Courts released a report entitled Separate Branches, Shared Responsibilities: A National Survey of Public Expectations on Solving Justice Issues. The survey highlighted an astonishing ignorance of our tripartite government. Fully 45 percent of the respondents were unable to name even one of the three branches of government. Barely one in five could correctly name the executive, legislative and judicial branches. We are asking you, our fellow attorneys, to join us in support of An Hour for Civics, which raises much-needed funding for the We the People and Project Citizen civic education programs. A contribution equal to just one billable hour is all we’re asking from each attorney.
The Bar Foundation and the Indiana State Bar Association have long partnered to bring civics education to Hoosier students. The Foundation has assumed responsibility for the civics programs and we, as attorneys, have a responsibility to ensure their sustainability and growth. Our kids depend on it.
Our civics program has become a national leader because of our staff and volunteer attorneys like you. The commitment shown is truly unparalleled and the resulting growth of the We the People and Project Citizen programs is remarkable.
Your support is crucial. Please consider pledging your support now for the We the People and Project Citizen programs and join us in giving An Hour for Civics.
Sincerely,

Robert C. Beasley President Indiana Bar Foundation

Roderick H. Morgan President Indiana State Bar Association
